HISTORY OF PYROGRAPHY
The word "Pyrography" was given to art that had an element of
fire in its inception.  "Pyro" meaning heat or fire, and "Graphics"
meaning expression with lines.  It is the origin of all art. The
cavemen used burn't sticks to draw pictures on the cave walls.
With the discovery of metal, pyrography took a giant leap.  During
the 1600's and early 1700's the men in Europe sat by their
fireplaces and would put metal rods in the fire and when it was
heated, they would wrap the rods with animal skins to protect
their hands and would burn pictures on the wooden walls.  But
they had the same problem as the primatives did.  The metal rod
would cool down to quickly so they solved the problem by
putting several metal rods in the fire to continue their artwork.
This is where the expression, " having more than one iron in the
fire" came from.  Instead of "pyrography," the artwork in those
days was called "Poker Art."  In the 1890's a platinum point and a
new woodburning outfit were introduced, making the craft
possible for the victorian women to manage.  After World War II,
kits were developed for young people.  The points were difficult
to use so the craft dissapeared from the general scene.  Today, the
points are much improved and interchangable.  I use the Colwood
"Galaxy" unit because of the digital heat source.  It gives a steady
heat source while I burn.  I use the Colwood tips and I also use the
Razortip pens with it.  If you are interested in ordering a
